Apocalypse Now Analysis Essay Example for Free
Apocalypse Now Analysis EssayThe line Mistah Kurtz he dead from T. S. Elliots poem The Hollow Men refers to one of the movies main characters Mr. Kurtz, a European trader who had gone into the heart of darkness ie the middle of the vast Vietnamese jungle with European standards of life and behavior. Because hes alienated from the morals and spiritual strengths he cannot maintain his sanity and soon turns into a barbarian. Eyes they dare not meet in dreams in my mind, these are the eyes of the innocent Vietnamese whose death they ordered. They being the American soldiers who, throughout the duration of their journey through the jungle lost their sanity and were brainwash because of the weapons they were given. What I was particularly fascinated by in the learn Apocalypse Now was the way the good can somehow turn into the evil, not on their own, but because of their surroundings. .. We were in the jungle, there were too many of us, we had access to too much money, too much equi pment and little by little we went insane verbalize by director and producer, Coppola at the Cannes film festival in 1979.Even the director had, little by little, gone insane being exposed to the Vietnamese jungle for so many years. The making of the film had taken more than 10 years and $30million to create which had brought Coppola to attempted suicide a couple of times. The film is based on the novella Heart of Darkness which took place during the Vietnam War, where the American and the Vietnamese soldiers showed no mercy when it came to a matter of life and death.Throughout the film, I realized that the main character, Captain Willard, send to assassinate Colonel Kurtz, began to be more and more captivated by Kurtzs achievements and was beginning to think like him as he was exposed to immoral atrocities of the Great War. When General Corman described Willards mission to him he told him In this war, things get confused out there, power, ideals, the old morality, and virtual(a) military necessity. Out there with these natives it must be a temptation to be god.Because theres a conflict in every human heart in the midst of the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. The good does not always triumph. Sometimes the dark side overcomes what Lincoln c totallyed the better angels of our nature. Every man has got a falling out point. You and I have. Walter Kurtz has reached his. And very obviously, he has gone insane. This quote reminds me of Dantes Inferno mentioned in the poem The Hollow Men a journey through the opposite circles of hell depending on the type of mortal one was and the type of crime they had committed during their lifetime. The man is clear in his mind but his soul is mad. standardised Alberto Giacometti, Kurtz and Willard develop two faces during the time of the war. The only difference is that Giacometti didnt need a war to show this, his dual personality was natural in criticizing himself, his paintings and his sculptures. W hilst reflection the film I found it mainly disturbing how these men, men with families, men who had peaceful souls, could casually blow off the head of a Vietnamese person without feeling just a tiny bit of hurt in their hearts. They could kill without feeling without passion without judgment without judgment Because its judgement that defeats us. The fact that these characters, sent out on mission through the rivers of a foreign place, were simple men, one a chef, the other a surfer, and the other a sailor gives the earreach the feeling that this could happen to anyone. Being placed in the jungles of Vietnam with nothing but weapons would turn us into these animalistic beings with only one instinct kill to survive. Do you know that if is the middle word in life? If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you This film is, in fact, all about losing ones mind, being brainwashed by the immoralit ies of society, to be converted into an emotionless killer. Its about the delusion of what an evil man is in the normal persons eyes compared to what an evil man is in the brainwashed persons eyes.

A Christmas Carol Essay Example for Free
A Christmas chirp EssayIn the time Dickens wrote A Christmas chirrup life was tough. Poverty was common and for most people food was scarce. Many people were forced to move to the already overpopulated, crowded cities and due to the lack of admit many a(prenominal) of these people were living in horrible conditions on the streets. Dickens tried to point out some of the social issues of the time through his belles-lettres in the hope that something could be done to make conditions for the distressinger people better. One issue Dickens points out is how money could change peoples lives dramatically. In A Christmas Carol skinflint represents a rich snob. He is stubborn, selfish and self-centred. He appears to be ignorant to all the poverty around him and doesnt acknowledge the impact it has on peoples lives. Scrooge is the type of person many of us would purposely avoid meeting, talking to or even catching eye contact with. It was the really thing he liked. To edge his way a long the crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to keep its distance (Page 35). It seems Scrooge makes a conscious effort to be seen as a loner and perhaps even enjoys it.The Cratchits represent the other side of the story and many of the poor families living at the time, they are poor and have so many hardships they have to cope with they were not well dressed their shoes were far from being water-proof their clothes were scanty and Peter ability have known, and very likely did, the inside of a pawnbrokers. But they were happy, grateful, pleased with one another, and contented with the time (Page 84). This shows how, even though they didnt have very many things going for them, they were happy with what they had been blessed with.In stave 3 Scrooge is taken by the ghost of Christmas present to see the Cratchits Christmas dinner. The dinner is not very big at all, as they all know, but Mrs Cratchit refuses to believe that they had eaten it all and everyone had enough to f ill their starving stomachs. Mrs Cratchit said with great delight (surveying one wasted atom of a bone upon the dish), they hadnt ate it all at last (Page 81) we are seeing her mothering instincts here as she tries to persuade herself, and anyone else listening to her that she has managed feed her family adequately and shes not stinting them despite the situation.Tiny Tim is a cripple, and represents the Cratchits unending struggle to cope with life. This doesnt upset the family though, because they treat him in the same way they treat from apiece one other. Before Scrooge met the family he was callous and uncaring, so when he asks the ghost if Tiny Tim will survive, the ghost quotes Scrooges words If he be like to die, he had better do it, and decrease the surplus population Scrooge then realises how horrid he had been in the past about cripples and other less aureate people than himself so he was overcome with penitence and grief, feelings he hadnt felt for a long time. The Cra tchit family are certainly not as rich as Scrooge but they are so much happier. They believe family and friends are so much more important than work and money. Mrs Cratchit doesnt worry about not having very much food, she worries more about her family and if anyone is late on Christmas day. What has ever got your precious father then, said Mrs Cratchit Page 79.This shows how loving Mrs Cratchit and the rest of the family are to each other, and they would rather have a smaller portion of food than some of the family missing out and having more food to themselves. Scrooge has a very contrasting view on life to the Cratchits, he believes he doesnt needs friends, family and happiness because he is rich, has a successful job and works hard. What right have you to be merry? What reason have you to be merry? Youre poor enough. (Page 36) Scrooge believed this until he met the Cratchit family.

Evolution of Leadership
Evolution of LeadershipAmber GosheAn Evolution of LeadershipIn order to thrive in the realm of attractors, companies and single(a) departments brook started to recognize that loss loss leaders must be pliable, continuous, and be able to play various roles to create synergy in the work place. Quantum leadership and the path-goal leadership theory are discussed in this paper, as well as, the benefits and limitations of both theories in an organizational environment. A real workplace scenario is presented with a discussion of the type of conflict presented, in addition to, strategies that could be employ in administering the issue at hand.Quantum LeadershipQuantum leadership is chaotic and is establish on principles of physics and constant change and transformation. It is always changing and evolving. Therefore, the leaders role is focused on understanding the intricacy of the change and then(prenominal) transforming it into a way that can be understood by those it affects (Mal loch doorman OGrady, 2009). By evaluating a change and anticipating change, a quantum leader can project to see where the change is going (Malloch ostiary OGrady, 2009). The theory focuses on adaptation, integration, interaction, and prediction (Malloch porters beer OGrady, 2009). Quantum leadership is not based on a hierarchy. It views an organization and its sections as interrelated team members that is better served through collaboration (Malloch doorkeeper OGrady, 2009). Quantum leadership emphasizes the enormousness of the relationships between individuals in the organization rather than focusing on solely the individual. Leaders and the people they lead fix to be comfortable with ambiguity and the challenges brought forth by continuous change (Malloch usher OGrady, 2009). Quantum leaders must be vulnerable and open to dissimilar realities only also be aware of their limitations (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009).Quantum leadership also embraces values for individual s and groups within the organization. There is an emotional investment that is important because it provides a perspective of ownership and integrity and should be visible because values stand out by a persons actions every day (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). Also, shared basic underlying assumptions in quantum leadership define the invisible culture and determine what makes the organization function every day (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). Yet, these are basic and highly influential in a groups behavior. This often goes overlooked until someone oversteps on one and then it usually comes out as frustration expressed by a team member that identifies the violation (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). The artifacts in the culture address the things someone first comes into contact with an organization and therefore it is easy to see what one encounters but it is hard to decipher the true meaning of the culture (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). Another assumption includes beliefs and values i ncluding the goals, identified goals and spoken values (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). These assumptions can be driven by groups or by individuals who have influence inside the institute. However, it can be challenging to make these underlying assumptions visible and used to add value.Quantum leadership focuses on the cover and embraces that it is nebulous and limitless and does not place emphasis solely on the results and how one gets there. Quantum leadership embraces finding potential. It is not always controllable or predictable and that is a good thing because a leader should become worried once everything becomes predictable (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). Quantum leadership lets go of control and opens up the chance for various leadership styles to emerge to align the motivation between team members (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). It emphasizes collaboration between members and building upon others effectivenesss but knowing their weaknesses and limitations. Quantum leade rship instills meaning into leadership but it does have its own action plans. The action plans within the organization, however, do focus on accomplishing goals appropriately and meaningfully (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009). The group must have good communication and interaction within the organization to accelerate success which can be aligned by the leader. The individuals interest in the organization is also taken into account (Malloch Porter OGrady, 2009).Path-Goal TheoryThe path-goal theory is based on identifying a leaders motivation or style that best suits the employee to facilitate goal achievement. This theory focuses on three main aspects of leadership which include the leader, the accessory or the blurbary, and the environment (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The characteristics of the subordinate include their own perception of their abilities and control and leaders can adapt to this perception by approaching the leadership from different angles based on their understanding. Characteristics of the environment focus on the structure of the t withdraw and the work group. This behavior enables the employee to become empowered, it increases their motivation, and improves employee satisfaction which assists the employee in being a productive member of the institute (Wofford Liska, 1993).A main concept of the path-goal theory is that the leaders will make rewards available in order to motivate their subordinates (Wofford Liska, 1993). These rewards can be adaptable and dependent on the situation at hand which makes the leader vulnerable to opening up to acclimation. In this theory, various different styles of leadership are used for different situations. There are four original types of leadership behaviors in the path-goal theory which include directive, supportive, participative, and achievement oriented. In directive leadership, the leader is specific and gives directions to the pursuit about what needs to be done and includes details on how it should b e done, the expectations, and when it needs to be done (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The leader will still provide focussing along the way. This style of leadership can be used when dealing with a complex or unstructured task of if the subordinate is inexperienced (Alanazi Rasli, 2013).The second leadership behavior is supportive leadership. In this style, the needs and well-being of the subordinate is taken into consideration, as well as, creating an approachable work environment (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). This is a bigger focus than completing the task at hand. This style may be used when the task is boring or puts the subordinate at risk for animal(prenominal) or psychological distress. The third style of leader behavior is participative. In this style, the subordinates are consulted in the process and those ideas can be used when making decisions (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). The subordinates opinion is highly respected in this style and often this can be used when the subordinates are the e xperts of the content matter. The fourth style of leader behavior is the achievement oriented leader. In this behavior, high expectations are set for the subordinates and challenging goals are set. A high level of performance is anticipate from the subordinates is expected while the leader instills confidence in their abilities (Wofford Liska, 1993).The path-goal theory is flexible in that the leader adapts to the subordinate, taking into consideration the environment and task at hand. This situational framework is strength for understanding how various leader behaviors affect the efficiency and satisfaction of the workers. It also incorporates motivation principles of the expectancy theory (Alanazi Rasli, 2013). However, it can also be complex to approximate to integrate many different aspects of leadership.Comparing Quantum Leadership and Path-Goal TheoryOne major difference between quantum leadership and the Path-Goal theory is control. The quantum leader is about positioning motivation between team members and is open to different views on a subject. The path-goal theory focuses on discovering the best behaviors for subordinates and attempts to control subordinates behavior with incentives. Also, the path-goal theory refers to subordinates indicating a ranked system where the quantum leader focuses on horizontal communication (). Yet, a similarity is that the leader in the path-goal theory works to facilitate task achievement for the pursuit and in quantum leadership the leader is focusing on aligning motivation between other team members which results in task achievement. However, quantum leadership is always always evolving and is a process, whereas in the path-goal theory there is a specific goal and expectancies on how to get from point a to b.Conflict ScenarioIn 2010, I started working(a) as a radiographer at Nationwide Childrens hospital. Before starting my new position, I had worked as a student assistant in the radioscopy department and I w as now a peer to those who had been over me. While running checks for a fellow co-worker, I noticed she would withhold images to run them herself. As I observed my co-worker and her method, I noticed she was deleting images when there was likely potential for motion. One day, an image was deleted after the wrong radiograph had been taken. A forearm was taken instead of an elbow and the forearm radiograph was deleted. After the elbow came back negative, the physician ordered a forearm and therefore the unhurried was unresolved twice for the same picture unnecessarily. I found this odd, since in every other aspect my co-worker upheld patient gum elastic and often advocated for it. The reject image rate which is calculated for patient safety is based off the images rejected in the computer system. Since there were images not being accounted for, an inaccurate portrayal of reading occurred. When my co-worker was confronted, she stated that the information from those images was not beneficial for the department and claimed she was unaware that it held any wrongdoing. In my opinion, this is a data-based conflict due to the lack of information and limited access to information. There is some value based conflict components presented in the scenario but the big picture is that data is not being unruffled and therefore it is affecting patient safety. Since that information would be extremely important for the effectiveness of the department and patient safety, certain measures or in-services were not being implemented based upon false information. The clinical work suffers as a result of not acquiring the appropriate information (54). The information and how it is generated, as well as, how it is distributed and the importance of it all have an impact on the effectiveness of the organization, as well as, its integrity (55). As a quantum leader in this situation, one would need to chink that proper processes and generation of information are set in place and appr opriately structured within the organization. To address the issue presented in the scenario, as a quantum leader I would want to get a basic understanding of the issues at hand and hear from the co-worker their issue with the process put into play, ask her to clarify her reasoning for why the information is not beneficial to the department, and what her feelings are on the issue. I would want to know if she has fear about running images that have mistakes on them and why. I would bring up patient safety with the co-worker for common ground. I would discuss with the co-worker how I praise her advocacy of patient safety in all other aspects and ask her to reflect on the situation to determine if there were patient safety issues involved. Also, this conversation would need to be done in a safe place so she felt open to discussing the conflict at hand. Throughout the conversation, I would discuss expectations for patient safety and assure the co-worker that the data collection system put in place is for the patient safety and for the employees. That information is not used to get employees into trouble, but to help determine in a non-blame way, what could be done in the future to prevent unnecessary exposures to patients. Agreements would need to be made on the process of data collection and a plan to follow-up on the agreement action ().ReferencesAlanazi, T.R. Rasli, A.M. (2013). History of the English Language Development
History of the slope Language DevelopmentWhat differs us humans from animals is the accompaniment that humans confine abilities to manipulate things that happen in daily life. Humans ar able to think whether a certain action can cause good or harm to themselves or people around them. Another essential difference that distinguishes humans and animals is the style utilize in communication. It is lyric, other than anything else that differs humankinds from fellow earthlings. It is a fact that other animals do communicate with each other, in many various bureaus, for example, warning for enemies or danger, calling for mating, or other various screams of cries to deliver their anger, fear or pleasure (Barber, 1993). However, these various calls of communication for their species differ from the uniqueness of the human language. Barber also states that a human language is a highly elucidate signalling system, a social tool, which uses vocal sounds. Languages are employ verbally a nd in writings. From the history, language is learned rungn first, while written language is secondary.According to crystal (2016), a language dies when it is not spoken or used anymore. Holmes (1992) states that language dies when all of its speakers die. However, when the speakers of a language shifts to use another language, the phenomena is called language shifts. Ein truth language forms, even though the levels of the changes vary from time to time, which is why it is somewhat hard to be read or understood the language that is from the azoic years. An example could be taken from Barbers The side Language A Historical Introduction (1993), incline people find it hard to comprehend an position document from the year 1300, where it is only if possible for them to understand if they have some special training. Documents in 900 look like a foreign language schoolbook to them, as it looks like it has no connection to Standard English. There are collar recognized periods in the development of the English language where the first period, dated from 450 to 1150 is k nowadaysn as elder English. According to Baugh and Cable (1993), this period is described as full inflections, where the endings of the noun, the adjective, and the verb are preserved more or less impaired. The next period starts from 1150 to 1500, is the diaphragm English period, or known as the period of levelled inflections, which started at the end of the Old English period, and the inflections during that period is said to be substantively levelled down. The last period, which is up until now is called as the Modern English period, which started since 1500. This period is also described as the period of loss inflections where the inflections in the language are completely vanished. The Middle English period, as stated by Baugh and Cable, is the period of a great change, where the language changes that happened during the period are more extensive and fundamental in comparison to the chang es in the language that took place in Old English and Modern English period. Every language changes from time to time, it is the matter of the core of changes that occur in the language. The study causes of the language changes were obviously because of the track of time, and contact, even though the changes and processes in the Middle English period that associates with the language contact are various (Penhallurick, 2010).The Norman attack to England in 1066 is one of the main causes that brought changes in the language from Old English to Middle English as they brought French into the land. Their invasion to England naturally had a significant effect on Englands institutions and its languages. The language changes that were brought from the French during their arrival were already existed in the Old English. They were speaking in French exclusively somehow influenced by the Germanic dialect. The dialect is called Norman French. According to (Virtual Medieval Church and Its Wr itings, 2003), this situation leads to the citizens speak the English language, whilst the Normans speak Norman French. In time, the two languages started to mix together which hence brings the existence of the Middle English. Around ten thousand French spoken language were brought into English by the thirteenth century. Most of these French loans still exist in the English language today.According to (Oxford English Dictionary, 2016), Middle English, based on the external history, is trapped at its beginning by the consequences of the settlements of the Norman oppression in 1066, and its end by the arrival of the printing documents by William Caxton in 1476, in Britain and by the important social and cultural impacts of the English Reformation (from the 1530s onwards) and of the ideas of the Continental Renaissance. The change from Old English to Middle English seemed to look a bit rapid by the rising of new spelling inventions by the Normans. The language used during that time , which is the West Saxon, was no longer used, due to the social and political disruption by the Norman Conquest. The changes that they brought include changes in the spelling where they used the spellings that matched more to the way they pronounce it in their spoken dialect. In addition, the scribes occasionally changed the spelling of the haggling they were copying to their own dialectal pronunciation, when they see if any did not match theirs. The Normans eliminate the traditional English spelling, therefore they spelt the language as how they heard it, which is using the conventions of Norman French. Both Barber (1993) and Freeborn (1992) mentioned these facts in their books. Examples of the changes made by the Normans could be taken from (Virtual Medieval Church and Its Writings, 2003), much(prenominal) as qu for cw (queen for cwen). The scribes also introduced gh (instead of h) in such words as night and enough, and ch (instead of c) in such words as church. Another change introduced was ou for u (as in house). Yet one more change was the use of c before e (instead of s) in such words as cercle (circle) and cell. The loss of inflections in the Middle English period also include the reduced amount in nouns, pronouns and adjectives. The Peterborough Chronicle, a medieval text written at Peterborough Abbey during the Old English period, where the continuations of the chronicle then shows the Middle English characteristics in the script even though in some ways the characteristics of the Old English still continues. Penhallurick (2010) mentions that the Normans are obviously the ones responsible for the mixings of French and Middle English, that they brought the scribes who are French-trained into England after their conquest. Three sources were affecting the changes in the Middle English and the changes can be seen from the Peterborough Chronicle where a significant number of new words are drawn upon the Norse, Latin and French. This shows that not only French caused the Middle English, but also the Norse and the Latins. The Norsemen brought in their words into Middle English which include grammar words oc but, um about, through, and til until, to. These are the effects of the contact between the English and the Norsemen during the 9th, tenth and 11th centuries, which is also a significant change of characteristic of Middle English. Borrowing or loanwords are the terms used for this situation where words which originated from a certain language is brought into another language and is used in the language. During the settlement of the Vikings in England, many Old Norse words were brought into Old English. Examples from Penhallurick (2010), nouns such as birth, husband, leg, skirt and sky, and verbs like to call, die, give, nag, take, and thrust. As stated by Baugh and Cable (2002), 900 loanwords from the Scandinavian that are still survived and in use in the modern measuring English these days, but many other words also still surviv ed but instead in the dialects of the former Danelaw, words like beck steam, dag to drizzle, and laik to play. Sisam (1975) mentions that the Norse words must have come into English even before the Middle English period, because the settlements of the Vikings stopped after the Norman Conquest. Sisam also states that it is not always slack to differentiate the Norse and the Middle English as both of the languages have many similarities during the borrowing period, and also the Norse words are borrowed quite early to be affected by Middle English. The language influence from the Latins started during the early days of English. When the Germanic tribe started English, they had already been in contact with the Romans in the continental Europe, which was when the Germanic tribes very beginning of their settlements in the British Isles. Many Latin words were borrowed into the tribes language during their settlement in the British Isles, where they borrowed from Britishs Celtic speaking pe ople, which they got from the Romans. Latin during that time was the language of the Christian church, which marked the Englands conversion to Christianity. This correlates with Sisams (1975) statement where there were few direct borrowings from Latin and most of it are taken from the technical language of church. Penhallurick (2010) states that the practice of writing documents in Latin during that time was somewhat usual and was joined by many of the Norman scribes, which gave the borrowings from Latin a new motive during the early Middle English period. Not only Old Norse and Latin words that were noted in the continuations of the Peterborough chronicle, but also new loan words from French, although there were only small number of it in the continuation. As an example, from Penhallurick (2010), duc duke, and pasches pasch, easter, including some loan words that were not only new additions to language but also eventually replaced present English words during that time, for example tresor treasure, and pais peace. This language development, the emerge of the French loans can be best described as started from very few words to over 10000 French words were borrowed during the end of the Middle English period. The total number of words borrowed is extraordinary considering that the total amount of Old English words were only 24000 approximately. From the Peterborough Chronicle examples, the French loans can be divided into two general types, which is either the new words are just new members of the English language which has new concepts or definitions, or new words that have the same definitions to an existing word in the native Australian language. The effects of this duplication could lead to either the loss of one of the words between the languages (usually the English word), or there could be the development in specialism in meaning between the words. Penhallurick (2010) gives an example, OE leod was pushed out altogether by French-derived people, whereas English might survives beside French-derived power, kingly beside royal, and wish beside desire. It is the royal family, never the kingly family and genies grant three wishes, rather than three desires. Sisam (1975) compares French with Norse, where he states that French language had little common with English, not like the Scandinavians, which brings to why the amount of French words used in the English texts is lesser in comparison to Old Norse and Latin, before the late thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.French continued to be the positive language of England until the mid of fourteenth century, the years after, English became the language of instructions, and became the official language of legal records or events, where later at the end of fourteenth century, everyone spoke English. When the London dialect emerged, it became the standard spoken and written language. During the end of 1500, English language has reached the language that is similar to as what is used today, wh ich shows that Modern English started existence used around that time. The arrival of printing press set up, invented by William Caxton in 1476 marked the starting of the end of the Middle English (Freeborn, 1992). If the Norman Conquest marked the start of the changes in the Middle English, William Caxton did the same for the start of the Modern English. Caxton is recognized for the arrival of printing in England through his work and a standard for the English language. His contribution brings us to the early period of the Modern English (Weiner, 2013).ReferencesBarber, C., Beal, J. and Shaw, P. (2013). The English language. beginning(a) ed. Effects of Melatonin Treatment :: Biology Essays Research Papers
http//www.ceri.com/melaton.htmEffects of Melatonin TreatmentIn order to discuss Melatonin as a drug and its effects on behavior we need to define Melatonin and what graphic symbol it plays in relation to brain and behavior. Melatonin is a hormone that is secreted into the bloodstream by the pineal gland. The pineal gland is a small, pea sized structure skilful the center of the brain. Signals from the eyes regulate the secretion of Melatonin. A persons internal clock, will fluctuate between a 23-25 hour a day cycle. in that respectfore, our Melatonin levels decrease and attach with the rising and setting of the sun, which aid to putting an individual on a 24 hour awake/sleep cycle.(1) The actual effects of taking Melatonin by word of mouth have been disputed for quite some time. Some facts that I had picked up were that Melatonin levels decrease with age. This decline can account for the difficulty many elderly good deal have with falling asleep. As the pineal gland breaks down, less and less Melatonin is being released, therefore making it more difficult to regulate the internal clock. There is still a lot of information about Melatonin that remains unknown. There is much controversy as to what the drug actually can, and does, do. Many people bring that it is capable of extending a persons life, curing insomnia, working as an anti-oxidant, changing a persons mood, de-stressing people, improving ones sexual life, and curing certain types of depression, but many believe otherwise. (2) I am not thoroughly convinced either way because of the contrasting opinions. I decided to make my own observations and come to my own conclusions by conducting a little experiment of my own. I am going to focus on just the effects of whether or not Melatonin will aid people in getting sleep. Observation has always been a simple way for me to derive whether or not something actually works. But in light of our class discussion, I do not know if that is the most appropriate way to look at things. We have discussed that some behavior is internal and we do not assimilate that on the exterior of the body. But for all intents and purposes, my observations for the effectiveness of Melatonin were external ones. My internal clock is really messed up. I usually sleep until 930 in the morning, but never head off to bed before 3 or 330. So Melatonin looked like a very appealing mentation to procure a little more sleep.

Free Essays - Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange :: Clockwork Orange Essays
A Clockwork Orange is a very different movie.  It has everything a movie should have, but the plot is quite disturbing, especially for the cartridge holder it came out.  I have personally determineed this film several times to relegate the meaning, and every time I watch it I come up with a different one.  I am going to try to explain what this film contains as well as try to explain the plot. A Clockwork Orange is a story of a young man whose principle interests are rape, ultra-violence, and Beethoven.  Its about a teen named Alex (Malcolm McDowell) who torments people in Britain in the near future.  He is accordingly betrayed by his friends and caught by the police, after he had murdered somebody.  He was sent to live in a Juvenile Facility where he had to endure a strange torture of being forced to watch horrific movies.  When Alex gets home, all the people that had done him wrong had their revenge on a weak, recuperating Alex.  Ill let you find out what happened at the end =).  A Clockwork Orange is a cult classic.  It was Stanley Kubricks 2nd Critically acclaimed film (the first being Spartacus).  I was first interested in the book by Anthony Burgess (which in my opinion, is equally as good as the movie). A Clockwork Orange contains only a few of the fragment that can make a good film.  One of them  is the makeup.  Alex and his gang (droogs) all where a makeup when they go out and do there thing.  It gives them all a look of insanity and makes them look disturbed.  I think that this was well done because it gives you a feeling of fear.  Being afraid of a character in a movie is an excellent way to get to know them.  other element used is the script.  Stanley Kubrick used the same special language used in the book.  A lot of the words have no real meaning and you still know what they mean.  The context the words are used in is very practically like the book.&n bsp Doing this, the book comes to life on the screen.  I always enjoy watching a movie the follows the book so close because it doesnt change the story. Another is the theme.  The theme of A Clockwork Orange is very hard to explain.  However, it still has one if not many.  As I stated before, every time I watch it I get something else out of it.
